Inspired by their travels to New York, Japan, and Copenhagen, FRANK’s clients were eager to create a fresh take on the typical cafe experience to produce something unlike anything Calgary has seen before. FRANK’s goal was to capture the spirit of Calgary’s iconic New Central Library while establishing the café’s visual narrative and identity through approachable and accessible design for all ages.
Raw concrete floors contrast with the warmth of the living plant wall and natural wood tones, and durable materials add contemporary flair against the natural elements of the space. By combining grab-and-go culture with a true dining experience with plenty of seating for guests to sit and read a newly acquired book, Lukes Central Library is both unique and comfortable. The materials and design are both durable and timeless while the clean lines and minimalist touches complement the main building of the New Central Library.
