The Glencoe Club, Calgary’s premier private sports and social club, required upgraded hospitality spaces to support the club’s commitment to creating exceptional experiences for their members. The forward-thinking project included careful consideration of operational and functional goals to create an elevated food and beverage offering, while providing club members with a “home away from home.” The extensive three-phase transformation was completed in 2020 and includes a diverse mix of hospitality and event spaces

Combining traditional design elements with a modern sensibility, Argyle is a fresh and inviting dining space that appeals to all generations of the iconic Glencoe Club. The partially open kitchen activates the space and brings a bustling energy, and floor to ceiling windows allow an abundance of natural light into the space. Rich layers of metal glazed panels combined with handmade tile in jewel tones of green and grey create a glamorous backdrop for guests as they dine. Gunmetal leather banquettes and plush blue seating combined with ornately detailed bronze and wood tabletops add rich layers and texture to the space. The classically designed fireplace anchors the family-friendly dining room and evokes a sense of comfort and intimacy for guests, whilst a large art piece by Mark Mullin hangs above adding a pop of color and whimsy.

The sleek bar layered in bronze, wood and marble creates an elegant focal point, and a mixture of cozy armchair seating and banquettes combined with uniquely detailed stone tables and soft furnishings in rich hues create a space that feels inviting and luxurious. Flanked by a custom wine wall, the private dining room provides a moodier atmosphere for special occasion dining, incorporating rich navy wall panelling, bevelled mirror, and an expansive floating chandelier.

The Argyle Patio is a sophisticated space where guests can experience three seasons of outdoor dining in Calgary. The large two-sided fireplace with custom cast concrete surround and hearth is the focal point of the patio, providing separation to create intimate dining pockets. Comfortable seating around the fireplace provides a casual and cozy setting that is designed to feel like an outdoor room, accentuating the ‘home away from home’ experience that was important to membership. An operable louvred awning system provides coverage from rain and shade from the sun for an uninterrupted open-air dining experience, while heaters have been strategically placed to increase the temperature under the canopy on cooler evenings.
